1. Look first at the overall message that the dating site is giving out. If they use phrases like, “we promise…,” “we guarantee your satisfaction,” or “fulfil your wildest dreams,” they are probably best avoided. Online dating sites that need to resort to hyperbole should be viewed as suspicious from the start.

Quite simply, no online professional dating site can deliver on a promise that you will be satisfied. They can do their best to achieve your satisfaction, and you should expect that, but a guarantee is going too far. An online professional dating site that goes out of its way to minimise your disappointment is a much better bet and one where you stand a much better chance of satisfaction.

2. Busy professionals need to operate on secure online dating sites. They need to know that their information stays with the site and is not passed on to other places who start pestering them with all kinds of irrelevant offers. This is the kind of irresponsible behaviour that can give online dating sites a bad name, and any site that sell on your personal data is saying that you are merely a commodity that they intend to make as much money from as possible.

3. The standards of an online dating site and the way they uphold them say a lot about their quality. If people are allowed to be rude and offensive in chat rooms without getting as much as a warning, then it’s time to leave. Check out some profiles as well. If blatant advertising can be found, or just web site addresses serving as someone’s cheap and easy back link to their web site, then no one is properly policing the site – or worse still, no one cares.

Always check an online dating site’s privacy policy. Of course, if they don’t actually have one, move on to the next site along the line. The privacy policy doesn’t guarantee anything, but certain things should be in place. Look for a clause stating that your private information will not be passed on to anyone else for any reason whatsoever. That doesn’t mean it won’t be, but having the statement in place does help a lot.

Most of what professionals need in their dating lives is efficiency and quality. It’s really a matter of common sense most of the time. Do your due diligence and check, check, check. It’s worth spending ten minutes checking up on a site rather than spending weeks regretting getting involved in an online dating site that allows every rule to be broken and sells your details to anyone and everyone.
